The Catenians

Raising money for charity while recruiting members.

If you are a regular reader of Catena, you may remember an article published last summer about an anonymous Brother who promised to donate £100 to charity for every enrolment in Province 19 during 2021/22, and £10 for every other visiting gentleman.

Now the scores are in, and they are extremely encouraging. Province 19 has enrolled 20 new members and entertained a futher 22 visiting gentlemen. Woking circle topped the table with seven enrolments.

One of the things I love most about the Catenian Association is the sense of camaraderie. We all come from different backgrounds, but we share a common bond that brings us together.

At the provincial AGM in April, retiring provincial president Geoff Bignelli presented a cheque for £2,220 for Mary’s Meals to GBNC national president David Arundale.

Mary’s Meals provides life-changing meals to some of the world’s poorest children every school day. It believes that by providing one good meal in a place of learning, children are drawn into the classroom where they can receive an education, that could, one day, free them from poverty. Mary’s Meals is named after Mary, the mother of Jesus, who brought up her own child in poverty.
