Support for young Catholics

“It is in helping others that we receive”

Young Catholics are our future and are the driving force of society.  They are also often a voice for change and the conscience of our society. Supporting them in their development, giving them advice and guidance, opening doors, and, ultimately, opportunities to continue helping others in the same way when they’re older, is vital to social progression.

Catenians try to encourage young people to do something marvellous by giving of themselves to help those less fortunate than themselves.  So often, when they do, it is they themselves who are the beneficiaries.  Our Bursary Fund was established to do just this: to challenge young people to do something ambitious – perhaps something just a bit scary – to travel and to give of themselves to help others.  We want to help them to achieve their aims and will provide financial awards to young people who propose challenging projects to us.

We’ve already given away well over millions of pounds of support through our charity, the Catenian Bursary Fund  and it continues to make further awards. All a young person has to do is to apply by completing an online form.

“Nothing is so unbelievable that oratory cannot make it acceptable.”   Marcus Tullius Cicero

Some say that oratory is a dying art.  Not so amongst the young people from all over the country who compete in regional heats to win a place to compete in the Annual Catenian Catholic School’s Public Speaking competition held in Manchester.  There is an immense amount of employment and business experience and skills locked up in our Association, and we know the value of being able to speak up at job interviews with answers to questions that are thoughtful and persuasive.  So we started our Public Speaking competition which is eagerly anticipated by Catholic schools throughout the UK.  Interested to learn more?  Contact us.

Supporting our faith

Whilst we are not a Catholic Association or a part of the Catholic Church, as individual Catholics our faith is supremely important to us.  Any Catholic knows that the Church is perpetually short of money to do all that it would like, so the Catenian Association funds the initiative taken by the Catholic Church in England and Wales to drive up vocations to Holy Orders.  You can read more about the initiative here, and we are delighted to know that our funding helps the team to operate.

And, of course, most Catenians, in their individual capacity, play prominent roles in the life of their local parish’s and Diocese.

Finally, the support and care of our existing and retired clergy has always been a priority for us. Although they can’t become members of our Association we extend a very warm and hospitable welcome to our social meetings and events.
