The Catenians

A Warm Welcome

Providing supportive friendship for over 100 years, the Catenian Association has a focus on the future and the busy, modern lives of its members. The Catenians originated as a lay association of Catholic men who met to share friendship and mutual support at a time when UK society and government still actively discriminated against them.

As society evolved, the Catenian Association adapted. We now invite all Catholic men to join our global community of members and their families, offering a genuine sense of belonging and connection.

Interested?  Considering joining us?  We welcome applications from all Catholic men, and you apply for membership to your local Circle or Group.  Find your nearest Circle and use the response form to get in touch so we can have a real person tell you, face-to-face, and with absolutely no obligation, just what it means to be a Catenian and how being a member will benefit both you and your family.  You might as well find out.  What’s to lose?

Links around the world

Founded in 1908 in Manchester, we’ve grown to be a global organisation. Head over to a large number of countries across the world, and you’ll find active networks throughout. For example, Ireland, Australia, Malta, India, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Nazareth all have vibrant and welcoming Circles spread far and wide. Find out more about joining or visiting them here.

Being part of the Catenian community

Our Catholic Faith is the ‘glue’ that binds us together. I feel I am a member of two families – my own and the Catenian family. Good friends, great fun and enjoyable company are the chief characteristics of my 24 years as a Catenian.

Andrew – Catenian since 1999

Something for everyone

Each local branch (or Circle, or Group, as we call them) provides a varied social programme for all ages. Regular, relaxed events – think sporting activities, quiz nights, family fun days, charity fundraisers, business networking, and other social events – provide friendship, advice, opportunities, care, a listening ear and, if necessary, financial support.

Giving back, together

Joy gained is given back through supporting many charitable causes – local and global – to help communities grow and enjoy life. In the past year, Circles in the U.K. raised over £xxxx for local charities. They also support the Association’s two in-house charities: the Benevolent Fund which provides members and their families with impartial, discreet financial aid during times of hardship, and the Bursary Fund, which sponsors young people contributing to wider society through national and international projects. Read more about our charitable work.

Getting a breather

Fancy a break from the daily grind? We know how busy and pressured modern life can be. That’s why we have golf societies throughout the Association that join together in a National Golf Championship week every year. On top of that, the Catenian Caravan and Camping Fellowship have a popular range of special events, helping you to get away from it all with like-minded friends.

See for yourself

There’s so much to tell you about what the Catenians can offer – why not come along to a meeting a couple of times and get a proper feel for it? No obligations, no pressure – just a chance to be part of something. We’d really love to meet you and make you feel welcome.

Use the Circle finder to find your local Circle and we’ll arrange for a local Catenian to contact you.
